Project Name: MALI: Extension of LE RABELAIS HotelRegion: Sub-Saharan Africa Sector: Tourism (accommodation)Project No. 009672 (under Proparco Agency Line # 8938)Projected Board Date: February 18, 2000Company Name: LE RABELAIS - GROUPE SARLTechnical Partner and/or Major Shareholder: Mrs Monique DORAY was associated in this project on a 50/50 basis with Mr Sidy Mohamed KEITA for administrative reasons. Mrs DORAY holds now 100 % of the company.Project Cost Including Proposed IFC and Proparco Investment: The project cost is Euro 1,9 M equivalent and the financing plan would include a Euro 230 000 PROPARCO loan and a Euro 230 000 IFC loan.Location of Project and Description of Site: The Quizambougou residential area in Bamako, capital city of Mali. The extension would be situated on a 1,800 square metres ground next to the existing hotel. Description of Company and Purpose of Project: The first hotel created by Mrs DORAY in Bamako (LA TOURAINE RABELAIS) was financed by AFD in the end of the eighties (the loan has been prepaid). This hotel is located on a site with a lease expiring in 2009. The extension and creation of the new company LE RABELAIS GROUPE will enable the sponsor to continue its activity if the lease is not renewed. The project plans the construction of the following facilities: 29 rooms, 5 suites, one bar, several meeting rooms, a pancake restaurant for 50 guests, a gift shop, a craft workshop, a garden with swimming pool, a storage area and some outbuildings.Expected Development Impact: a 20 persons local staff will be hired.Environmental Category and Issues: This is an environmental category B project. The key environmental, occupational health and safety issues may include fire protection, liquid effluent and solid waste, location of the generating set. The staff will benefit from appropriate sanitary facilities in the buildings and from social security.
