The sponsors are Mr. Amritpal Aggarwal and his three sons who own 100% of the company. The Aggarwals are successful businessmen and have successfully operated the sunflower crushing plant for over eighteen months.

The project is located in Arusha.

Description of Company and Purpose of Project

The project debottlenecks and expands the capacity of an existing sunflower oil crushing plant by adding an expeller and other ancillary equipment.

Environmental Category and Issues

This is an environmental review category B project.  Key environmental health and safety issues associated with this project include waste disposal, boiler emissions, fuel storage, employee safety and fire protection. The sponsor is implementing the following mitigation measures:  the plant boiler, which was tested by the Ministry of Labour, complies with World Bank guidelines; liquid wastes will be disposed of in a septic tank; solid wastes will be used as animal feed; fuel storage is provided with secondary containment; fire safety and occupational health and safety programs have been established; and employees have been trained in safety rules and use of PPE.
