Project Cost Including proposed IFC investment
The total project cost is estimated at US$43.0 million. The proposed IFC investment would total US$28 million and would consist of (i) a US$12 million A loan and a US$6 million equity subscription both for IFC’s own account and (ii) a US$10 million B loan for account of participant banks.
Location of project and Description of site
Mexico. Project sites include various locations in different parts of Mexico. The greenfield facility will be located in Puebla.
Description of Company and Purpose of Project
The Company is the largest lime producer in Mexico. Lime is used extensively in the construction industry, in steel manufacturing, and in numerous other chemical and industrial applications. The purpose of the project is to assist the Company in the financing of: (i) the modernization and expansion of its existing facilities; and (ii) the construction of a greenfield lime plant.
Environmental Category and Issues
Environmental Unit has ranked this project a category “B” project. Environmental upgrades are underway at several of the Company’s plants. These activities and other commitments by Calidra will bring the existing operations into compliance with World Bank guidelines. The new plant in Puebla will be designed to meet the World Bank guidelines.
