The total project cost is US$12.1 million, including an IFC Loan of US$4.2 million.
Location of project and Description of site
The Sarajevska complex is located on a hill adjacant to the old part of Sarajevo and is bounded by residential buildings and a school. The complex was constructed in 1880.
Description of Company and Purpose of Project
The project is a diversification program adopted by this brewery to introduce carbonated soft drinks and new PET and can packaging. The Company is a medium-size brewery. The project will enable the Company to produce carbonated soft drinks and mineral water, and to offer its products to customers in PET and can packaging in addition to its returnable glass bottles.
Environmental Category and Issues
This is a category B project according to IFC’s environmental review procedure. Potential environmental, occupational health and safety issues include: exisiting site conditions, air emissions, liquid effluents, solid waste management, noise, workplace health and safety, and relocation. Site contamination is not an issue. The project utilizes technologies to deal with air emissions, solid waste, and noise. The liquid effluent will be treated in a municipal waste water treatment plant that will be rehabilitated. The relocation of the eight families has been done in accordance with the World Bank’s Involuntary Resettlement Policy. The health and safety provisions comply with the World Bank guidelines.
