Project Description

The proposed project is to provide a $6 million senior loan (or local currency equivalent) to Kompanion Financial Group Microfinance CJSC (“Kompanion” or the “Company”), which would use the loan to expand lending to micro and small entrepreneurs (the “Project”). The Company seeks long-term funding to continue its dynamic growth and offer new products to its target clientele.

Kompanion was founded in October 2004 as a Limited Liability Micro Credit Company through the consolidation of five separate micro-credit agencies. In April 2009 the Company was reorganized into a closed joint stock company and licensed by the National Bank of Kyrgyz Republic as a non-deposit-taking commercial microfinance company.

Kompanion has an extensive country-wide geographic footprint with representation in all regions. It provides micro- and small-business credit in rural and urban areas throughout Kyrgyzstan. Currently, the Company’s primary products are women solidarity group loans (approximately 84% of the customer base) and secured small business loans to entrepreneurs and individuals in agriculture and rural areas.

Kompanion is targeting primarily the rural areas and lending to individuals in poor rural villages, fostering the growth of these less developed areas. With its active clients base of over 137,000 as of December 2011, Kompanion is the largest credit provider by outreach in the country.
