The Project Sponsor is Grupo Calida (“Calidra” or the “Company”). Calidra was founded in 1908 and is the leading producer of lime and limestone related products in Mexico.
The Company is privately owned by two major shareholders (shareholder groups), Riefkohl family members (55%) and Graymont (Canadian lime producer) (45%).
Graymont is a family owned company focused on high calcium and dolomitic lime, value added lime based products such as specialty hydrates and precipitated calcium carbonates, and in the aggregate and pulverized stone business. Graymont is the third largest lime producer in the world.

The total project cost is estimated at US$188.2 million.
The proposed financial plan includes a combination of US$98.2 million internal cash generation and US$90 million debt from IFC and a/the commercial bank(s) under the IFC B Loan.
IFC will provide an up to US$50 million A Loan for its own account and mobilize an up to US$40 million B loan from a/the commercial bank(s).

The Project’s capital investments will be deployed throughout Grupo Calidra’s production plants in Mexico and in one to two locations, either greenfield or existing, in each country Peru and Colombia.

The following summary development impacts are expected to be achieved: maintaining profitability, achieving cost-energy efficiency, using alternative fuels and raising environmental, health and safety standards.

IFC will continue to support a long-term strategic client by providing long-term funding, mobilizing other lenders and structuring terms that support its capital investments. IFC''s backing of the Project and strong business relationships in Peru and Colombia, will also provide confidence to the new business partners and markets on the Calidra brand name. With the Project, the industry standards in Peru and Colombia, in particular those related to environmental impact and energy consumption, are expected to improve.

This is a Category B project, according to IFC’s Environmental and Social Review procedures because the environmental and social impacts that may result can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines or design criteria. The following potential environmental, health and safety, and social issues were analyzed:
- Corporate E&S capability
- Raw materials and resource management
- Air emissions and wastewater management
- Quarry exploitation and reclamation programs
- Solid waste management and disposal
- Biodiversity aspects
- Fire protection and emergency response
- Occupational health and safety
- Logistics and transport
- Community engagement and development initiatives

Upon implementation of this project along with the mitigation measures summarized below and included in the attached ESAP, the project is expected to comply with IFC’s E&S requirements, namely the laws and regulations of the relevant countries, IFC’s Performance Standards (PSs) on Social and Environmental Sustainability and the applicable elements of the following World Bank Group (WBG) Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines: (i) General EHS Guidelines, (ii) Cement and Lime Manufacturing, (iii) Construction Materials Extraction, and (iv) Forest Harvesting Operations.
