Project Description

The proposed Project is with the Alutech group of companies (“the Company”, “Alutech” or “the Group”), the only producer of roller shutters accessories, sectional doors and aluminum extruded products in Belarus and the IFC good-standing client since 2010. Alutech was founded in 1996. It operates four manufacturing enterprises (Alutech, AluminTechno, Alutech Industrial Doors Systems and Alstrong) in Minsk, Belarus, and one in Kyiv, Ukraine, as well as over 20 trading companies and local warehouses in Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, and Czech Republic (jointly referred to as the Group). The implementation of the Project would allow Alutech to further reduce its production cost, strengthen its leading market position and penetrate new geographic markets, predominantly in the growing former CIS region and European Union through the expansion of its production capacities for sectional doors and aluminum profiles.

Development Impact

The Project will further increase the supply of high quality extruded aluminum products and panels, which are important components for the construction industry, and are used in infrastructure, housing amd industrial real estate developments across the region. The Project will help Alutech grow its share in the regional market, substituting imports and providing adequate quality products at competitive price. It will also help the Company to increase its exports to the European markets. Key development impacts to the local economy include employment generation and benefits to the consumers. The Project has a significant demonstrational effect.

The Project is a Category B project according to IFC’s environmental and social review procedure. Alutech’s current environmental and social performance is in material compliance with the regulatory requirements of the Republic of Belarus and relevant World Bank Group’s Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines. It is expected that Alutech’s environmental and social performance will be further improved as the result of the Project implementation – the existing anodizing and foundry workshops will be phased-out, and new facilities will be fully equipped with appropriate emission and effluent discharge control. Construction impacts associated with the Project are limited and can be readily mitigated by applying standard protection measures during construction.
