Project Description

The project consists of a new syndicated facility to Banco Itaú BBA, S.A, (“Itaú BBA” or the “Bank”), the wholesale subsidiary of Itaú Unibanco Holdings (“IUH”). IUH is an existing partner to IFC and one of the largest banks in Brazil. It offers a wide range of financial services including banking services to individuals, micro, small and medium enterprises, and large corporate clients through Itaú BBA.

This above Project will support Itaú BBA’s lending operations in the frontier regions of Brazil, especially in the North and Northeast, assisting the Bank to grow its credit portfolio and presence in those regions.

Development Impact

1) Long term funding to frontier regions: IFC will provide long term funds to be channeled exclusively to companies located in frontier regions of the country.
2) Mobilization: IFC''s A loan will be complemented by a B loan structure which aims to address scarcity of long term funding in local and foreign currencies
3) IFC Stamp of Approval: IFC''s proposed long term loan for its own account will send a strong and compelling message of confidence to the markets. This is particularly important, given current shortage of USD long-term funding in the market.
4) Syndication relevant impact: IFC proposed mobilization effort may allow for an increase of South-South engagement among emerging markets B-Loan participants.

The proposed project has been classified as Category FI according to the IFC Environmental and Social Review Procedures. During the appraisal IFC will review the client''s portfolio and the project structure to determine E&S requirements applicable to the Project, as well as review the Bank’s labor practices according to IFC’s standards. The client has an existing Social & Environmental Management System (SEMS), which IFC will review and may recommend adjustments, if needed regarding the Project. The client may be required to; (i) maintain and/ or upgrade the SEMS concerning the Project; (ii) demonstrate commitment to applying the labor standards established by the IFC Performance Standard 2: Labor and
Working Conditions; and (iii) continue to annually submit “The Social and Environmental Performance Report for Financial Intermediary Client” to IFC
