Project Description

With a growing customer preference for credible organic foods, larger and branded organic food companies are expected to further strengthen their market position. Jiangxi JinYuan Agriculture Development Co., Ltd (“JinYuan” or the “Company”) is planning to build an organic food processing facility in Tonggu county in Jiangxi Province (the “Project”), a neighboring county to Wanzai where the Company’s existing facility is located, to expand its capacity. The Project is estimated to cost about $54 million.

Development Impact

1.Rural growth and Employment: The Project supports a organic food company in the frontier region in China. The Company will have impact and rural reach by procuring from additional households, employing additional rural workers, and create business opportunities for MSMEs.
2.
Sustainability and Standards: By investing in JinYuan, IFC will be supporting a Company with a keen desire to contribute to the sustainable rural development and adopt higher food safety/quality standards.

Demonstration Effect: The success of the Project is expected to have strong demonstration effect in the organic food industry in China and sets a good example for peers to improve their operational standards.

1. Long-term partner: IFC''s long-term loan and equity will enable the Company to maintain its solid financial structure for long-term development.
2. Expertise and global knowledge: JinYuan values IFC''s knowledge and expertise and sees IFC as one of the international investors who provides financing, and also offers invaluable insights and lessons learned, both globally and locally.
3. E&S Performance: IFC can play an important role in the Company''s adoption of strong E&S standards.

This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Environmental and Social Review Procedures. The Project will result in a limited number of environmental and social (E&S) impacts which can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, procedures, guidelines or design criteria. Key environmental, health and safety, human resources and social issues that were reviewed included: environmental and social management system (ESMS); contractor and supply chain risk assessment and management; community engagement; labor and working conditions; occupational health and safety; water and energy use and efficiency; greenhouse gas emissions; air emissions, and water and solid waste management; community health and safety; land acquisition; and biodiversity preservation.
