Project Description
The Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (“EAIF” or the “Fund”), an existing IFC client, is a Public Private Partnership (“PPP”) incorporated in Mauritius that provides long-term USD or EUR denominated debt or mezzanine finance on commercial terms to finance private infrastructure projects in 45 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa (“SSA”).
Since the initial capitalization in 2002 with the Private Infrastructure Development Group “PIDG” (a multi-donor organization formed by various European public development agencies) as its sole equity investor and in response to a growing portfolio and financing needs of infrastructure projects in SSA, the Fund has undergone three rounds of additional funding reaching its current size of $600 million. IFC participated in the last round of financing closed in June 2010, committing a senior loan for $36.25 million and a standby liquidity facility for $12.5 million
The Project involves providing $150 million of net additional senior debt to EAIF in order to enable the Fund to invest in new projects through 2013.
