Tamek Holding A.S. (the Sponsor or the Holding), headquartered in Istanbul, has the controlling shareholding in Tamek and holds 95% of the Company’s capital. The Sponsor is owned by Sipahioglu and Sengor Families, and the remaining 5% of the Company is held by individual members of both families.

The proposed IFC investment is a long-term local currency financing of up to TRY25 million for the Project.

Headquartered in Istanbul, Tamek has three operating facilities in Marmara and Aegean Regions (i.e. one facility in Bursa – Karacabey, one in Manisa – Salihli and one in Balikesir – Kiziksa) in addition to one warehouse (i.e. in Bursa – Nilufer) in the Marmara Region.

The Project will have following development impact: - Increased Competition: The Project will strengthen Company's position in the market as well as improve its competitiveness, which in turn will promote the competition in the fast growing fruit juice and branded processed food sectors. - Local Supply Chain Linkages & Farmers Reached: The Company works with various distributors throughout Turkey and applies contracted farming for various raw materials. So, with the Project the Company would be able to (i) collaborate more with its distributors to increase efficiencies, (ii) support more individual farmers; and (iii) further extend its local supply chain coverage thanks to improved operational and financial performance at corporate level. - Job Preservation & Increased Tax Revenues: With the Project, the Company will be able to retain its existing labor force while improved financial performance would lead to higher revenues/profitability resulting in returns to the society in form of taxes.

- Local Currency Financing: IFC will be providing financing in local currency, which will minimize the FX risk the Company facing since most of Company's revenues are generated in TRY. - Standard-setting in Environmental & Social Issues: IFC could help Tamek to improve its capacity in many areas of environmental and social (E&S) management and assessment with the introduction of policies and established standards, which goes beyond the local regulations. With the introduction of best practices in E&S areas, the perceived quality of the brand would be further improved.

This corporate-level investment is a Category B project under IFC’s Policy on Social and Environmental Sustainability because a limited number of specific environmental and social impacts may result which can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized good international industry practices, guidelines, design criteria, local regulations and industry certification schemes.
Key environmental and social risks for this project include: (i) Quality, Environment and Safety Management systems, (ii) Food Safety programs and certification at processing and commercialization, (iii) Organic waste water pollution load from fruit processing operations are problematic if untreated, (iv) Solid waste, packaging waste and air emissions, (v) Refrigerant selection (non-ozone depleting) , NH3 Safety and hazardous waste management, (vi) Energy efficiency and water consumption, (vii) Supply chain management, (viii) Occupational health and safety, (ix) Life, fire and traffic safety; and (x) Labor and working conditions.
