Goldwind has been listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange since 2007. Goldwind’s shareholders include Xinjiang Wind Energy Co.Ltd (18.27%), China Water Investment Group Corporation (15.75%), China-Belgium Direct Equity Investment Fund (7.2%), management (4.35%), Public A-share holders ( 45.9%) and others ( 8.4%)

The total Project cost is estimated to be $ 1,100 million. IFC is considering a financing package of up to $ 50 million.

The Project is located in the 3 sites, as: New District Beijing Economic & Technological Development Area, Beijing; No. 151 Huangshan Street Economic & Technological Development Zone Phase II, Urumqi City Autonomous Region; and No.118 Tianyuan Road Jiangning Science Park Jiangning District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province.

The project will have the following positive developmental impacts: Contribution to the Sustainable Development of Wind Technology: Goldwin, as a leader in China’s wind market, has developed unique direct drive and permanent magnet generator (“DDPMG”) technology that is seen to represent the future trend of turbine development worldwide. The success of the new turbine technology can significantly help improve the economic return of wind power investment and thus sustain the healthy development of the industry, both in China and other emerging economies. Development of Frontier Regions: Goldwind, headquartered in Xinjiang, one of the most impoverished regions in China. Goldwind also has production bases in other less developing remote frontier regions like Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Shaanxi and Ningxia. Given the labor intensive nature of the business, Goldwind can create abundant job opportunities in these regions and further develop its supply chain which in turn benefits local SMEs. Goldwind has a significant impact on the local economy of West China. Role Model for Domestic Player in China’s Wind Market: Goldwind was the pioneer and leader in China’s wind market. The Company’s impressive achievement in becoming the fifth largest turbine manufacturers globally has made clearly demonstrated that newly start-up companies, originated from frontier region, can also succeed in sectors that are mostly dominated by big state owned enterprises.

IFC’s additionality includes :(i) playing the role of long-term strategic investor and helping boost the market confidence; (ii) supporting the Company’s international expansion plan via IFC’s wide-reaching network and long-term partnership commitment; (iii) assisting the Company’s efforts to move to downstream wind farm business in other developing countries; and (iv) sharing best practice and helping the Company to enhance it environment, social and corporate governance standards.

This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Procedure for Environmental and Social Review of Projects. The proposed IFC financing will be used to support Goldwind in its operations which primarily include manufacture of high efficiency wind turbines, with development of wind farms for sale being a marginal part of the business. Goldwind''s products are used for generating electricity from a renewable resource, and typically located in remote regions and are typically expected to have relatively limited and manageable project-specific impacts given their small physical footprint. Where potential for negative impacts exist, these can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines or design criteria. Goldwind will adopt IFC environmental and social Performance Standards as part of applicable requirements in its management system and has committed to conduct its activities in accordance with international industry standards for best practice in the sector, and upon implementation of the management plan and specific additional measures described below, will comply with the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability.
