Project Description
The project consists of a convertible loan to OJSC “Orient Express Bank” (“Orient Express”, or the “Bank”) in the amount of up to $75 million. Orient Express is a large privately-owned regional bank headquartered in Khabarovsk, Far East, and an important strategic partner for IFC in Russia due to its significant regional presence, including 14 frontier regions, experienced management team, and extensive outreach potential, which IFC can help the Bank maximize. As of July 1, 2010 the Bank ranked among top 50 banks in Russia by total assets and among the top 10 banks – by branch network size: 464 offices in 179 towns and cities with population ranging between 30 thousand and 10 million people in each location, spread over several Federal Districts of Russia. Although the Bank is currently mostly retail-oriented, in the future it plans to become a more active player in the micro and small enterprise lending segment, too.
