ALSA was established in 1995 as a specialized leasing Company and is currently transforming into a finance company. The company is 85% controlled by a Peruvian/Chilean economic group (the Santa Cruz-Yaconi Group) and has a very capable management team and committed sponsors.

The proposed project entails an IFC investment for up to PEN15.5 million (approximately equivalent to US$5.4 million) to help fund the growth of ALSA’s portfolio.

The company is headquartered in Lima from where it offers services particularly to SMEs in the transportation, manufacturing, services and retail sectors. Although, ALSA does not have any branches or agencies outside of Lima, it is able to serve clients outside the capital city through its agreements with vendors that have national coverage.

Increased access to finance: this investment could help make financing available to Peruvian SMEs for over 500 long term capital investment projects.

Mobilization: The investment will facilitate ALSA's mobilization of at least PEN$45 million (US$15 million equivalent) over a 5-year period from other investors.

This project involves an IFC investment to support a leasing company and has been classified as a Category FI project. Under the existing project (#26100), the client was required to develop a procedure to screen and process all of its investments to avoid supporting activities on the FI exclusion list and to ensure that the use of the leased equipment complies with the applicable national laws; identify qualified persons to manage and implement the procedure; inquire and review S&E information available in the public domain and avoid leasing to businesses that have substantial unresolved environmental and social issues when leasing to business activities with potentially significant environmental and social risks (e.g., mining, oil production); and submit a periodic report to IFC as per a format to be provided by IFC. These requirements apply to the new project, too. In addition, the client will be required to demonstrate commitment to applying the labor standards established by the IFC Performance Standard 2: Labor and Working Conditions.
