Project Description

Jamaica Energy Partners (“JEP”), a Jamaican independent power producer and an existing IFC client, was invited by the Office of Utilities Regulation (“OUR”) to participate in a Request for Proposal (RFP) for 66MW new power generation capacity. In December 2008 JEP was awarded the bid over other bidders. The project (the “Project”) will consist of the Greenfield development of the tendered 66MW power generation plant using medium-speed diesel engines burning heavy fuel oil on a build-own-operate (“BOO”) basis. The development is to be carried out by a dedicated special purpose vehicle West Kingston Power Partners (WKPP), affiliated to JEP. The Project will sell its capacity and energy under a long term power purchase agreement to Jamaica Public Service Company (“JPSCo”), Jamaica’s national integrated public utility and the grid operator. JEP currently owns and operates two power plants with a total installed capacity of 124MW. With this 66MW addition from the Project, JEP and its affiliate for the Project will have a total installed capacity of 190 MW.
