Project Description

The Regional MSME Investment Fund for Sub-Saharan Africa (“REGMIFA” or “the fund”) is a proposed collective debt investment vehicle to support micro and small businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa. The objectives of REGMIFA are (i) to offer and encourage additional but market-based financing – with an emphasis on local currency – to financial entities serving micro and small businesses (“microfinance institutions” or “MFIs”; (ii) to help establish microfinance as an asset class with mainstream investors and leverage donor funds with private capital; and (iii) to support medium-term capacity building among financial entities serving micro and small businesses. REGMIFA will provide local currency debt financing to smaller banks, non-bank institutions and commercially oriented NGOs that serve small and micro businesses. A parallel TA facility will provide capacity building support to investees.
