Project Description
The project is to provide DFCU Limited (DFCU or the company) with Tier II capital of up to $5 million. The objective of the project is primarily to strengthen the capital base of DFCU so that it can expand its loan portfolio in critical sectors – SMEs and mortgages.
DFCU is both an operating company that provides term finance and mortgage finance products, and a holding company with the following 100% owned subsidiaries – DFCU Leasing Limited and DFCU Bank Limited (the Bank). It also owns 67% of two investment property companies, Rwenzori Properties Limited and Nakasero Properties Limited. They are collectively referred to as the DFCU Group (the Group). This investment in DFCU will be a continuation of IFC’s long-standing relationship with the most recent investment being a $10 million credit line in June 2005. IFC was a key shareholder in DFCU for over 20 years and exited its investment when it listed on the Kampala Stock Exchange in October 2004.
