Project Description
The proposed project is the second phase of the redevelopment and expansion of Sangster International Airport (SIA) under a 30-year build, operate and transfer concession granted by the government of Jamaica (GOJ) to the project company, MBJ Airports Limited (MBJA). As the principal gateway for tourists visiting Jamaica’s major resorts, SIA is of particular importance to the country’s tourism infrastructure. The GOJ has made its expansion and modernization a high priority. The project consists of the construction of a new landside terminal facility and the renovation of the existing landside terminal to provide additional arrival, baggage claim and customs facilities, departure lounges, retail concessions and food courts. By the end of the project, SIA’s annual handling capacity will have been boosted to 7 million passengers per year, eliminating capacity constraints at SIA for the foreseeable future.
