Project Description
The proposed IFC investment consists of a loan of up to $45 million to National Commercial Bank Jamaica (NCBJ, the Bank, or the company),
NCBJ is the second-largest private commercial bank in Jamaica with total assets of $2.9 billion, total group equity of $266 million and a network of over 50 branches as of year end 2004.
The purpose of the project is fourfold:
- support the growth of the Bank’s lending operations
- alleviate the lack of mid-term and long-term financing for private sector companies
- provide NCBJ with an additional source of funding
- ensure there is sufficient equity in the company to facilitate its future regional expansion plans
Given NCBJs interest in IFC’s Global Trade Finance Facility, an incremental trade line may be made available to the company as well as Technical Assistance opportunities.
