Project Description

PT Austindo Nusantara Jaya Finance (ANJ or the company) is engaged in the business of financing consumer purchases of new and used automobiles. The company was previously known as PT Elbatama Finance. In 2003, the name was changed to its current name. The project consists of an IFC loan of up to $20 million (IFC Loan) equivalent in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) to ANJ. The proposed IFC loan would help ANJ to expand its automobile financing/leasing activities, diversify its funding base and better match its asset/liabilities. Due to the lack of long term fixed IDR financing in the market, there is heavy reliance on short-term debt to finance longer-term assets leaving leveraged companies (i.e., leasing/financing companies) vulnerable to financial shocks. The proposed IFC Loan will help ANJ to better match its long-term assets with its liabilities, reducing mismatch risks. Since the Asian Financial Crisis of 1998, currency mismatches continue to be a key concern; therefore the IDR based loan would significantly reduce foreign exchange risk.
