Project Description

Founded in 1967 in Espírito Santo, Brazil, Aracruz Celulose S.A. (Aracruz or the company) is the world's leading producer of bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp (BEKP), which is used by paper manufacturers to produce a wide range of products, such as tissue, printing and writing papers and specialty papers. Its two pulp plants located in the cities of Barra do Riacho and Guaiba have a combined annual capacity of 2.4 million tons, corresponding to 31% of the global supply. The company also has 247,000 hectares of eucalyptus plantations in the states of Espírito Santo, Bahia, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul. The proposed corporate loan from IFC will to support a number of corporate-level initiatives that the company is undertaking in an effort to maintain its ability to compete at the highest levels on a global basis.
