The project is being implemented by several members of the Acosta family, a reputable family based in Guadalajara, with business interests in bus transportation, gas station services, medical and legal services.

The total project cost is estimated at $71.4 million. The proposed IFC investment is a $14 million A loan for IFC’s own account.

The two buildings of the Project are adjacent to each other and are located in the Zapopan area of Guadalajara, Mexico, close to a residential neighborhood and major roads. The ambulatory center occupies 19,200 square meters (4,668 of which for clinics; 7,002 for medical offices; 5,318 parking space; and the remaining 2,212 common areas). The hospital building is being constructed on 10,020 square meters and will have several underground floors for parking, utility rooms and support services, as well as additional medical offices.

Being the first private facility with a focus on ambulatory surgery, the Project will expand access to quality health care in Guadalajara and demonstrate best administrative and patient care practices throughout the medical community. It will also provide a forum for medical seminars and conferences, aimed at professionals as well as the general public. IFC will provide long-term financing, currently unavailable to private health care institutions in Mexico. A long-term loan from IFC will help in setting a track record for the Company and the industry. Additionally, IFC’s involvement will contribute to increased transparency of accounting and monitoring practices, thus placing the Company ahead of competition.

This is a category B project according to IFC’s environmental review procedure because specific impacts may result that can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines or design criteria. The review of this project consisted of appraising technical and environmental information submitted by the project sponsor. Based on this information, IFC concludes that the proposed project will meet the applicable World Bank/IFC environment and social policies and the environmental, health and safety guidelines upon successful implementation of the agreed mitigation measures.
