Project Description
Tribanco was created in 1990, it holds a full banking license, and is subject to the supervision of the Central Bank of Brazil. Tribanco provides financing and banking services to customers (small shop owners) of Grupo Martins (as well as some of its suppliers). Grupo Martins (Gmartins) is the largest wholesaler/ distributor in Latin America. Tribanco, a subsidiary of Gmartins, provides a wide range of financial services for its clients including receivables discounting, equipment purchase financing, investment alternatives and even credit cards to the clients of the retail shops it supplies. Tribanco’s credit portfolio composition is 65% small retail shops, 34% suppliers and 1% logistics services.
This project will provide Tribanco with the funding to develop new products designed to upgrade or expand the sales outlets of micro and small entrepreneurs. There is significant developmental impact, since many of Tribanco’s customers are microenterprises located in less privileged or remote regions of the country. IFC’s financing will thus support a pioneer microfinance operator in a large, underserved market.
