SONDA is headquartered in Santiago, Chile, and has branches in eleven countries in Latin America (Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Venezuela). The investment can be made throughout Sonda’s region of operation.

Project Development Impact: As one of the largest IT service providers in South America, Sonda will have significant developmental impact by creating hundreds of IT related jobs in Latin America, training new and experienced IT personnel, and providing customized local IT solutions services to Latin American enterprises. Sonda’s success and potential IPO will provide a powerful example of a local company going regional and of entrepreneurial success. IFC’s Role: The technology industry downturn and the subsequent decline of appetite for technology investments by private equity investors has made it extremely difficult for even the most successful larger IT companies in Latin America to raise equity. These same factors have led to a withdrawal and divesting of non-core assets by strategic players. IFC’s investment will help the company in building a new investor group that can add substantial value to the company. In addition, IFC can also play a role in: - assisting the company’s regional expansion; - help the company tackle its future funding needs through sophisticated financial products such as local bond issues structured finance and risk management products; and - enhancing the company’s corporate governance practices, and assist the company prepare for a public offering.

This is a category C project according to IFC''s environmental and social review procedure. There are minimal environmental and social impacts associated with this project. If physical assets, for example warehouses, are constructed during the life of the project loan, the company will notify IFC, develop procedures to appraise the construction project(s), and demonstrate compliance with all relevant environment and social policies, guidelines and procedures.
