Project Description
IFC plans to create a Central Asia Leasing Facility (the facility or the company) to expand financing options for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and help them expand their operations, as well as to introduce competition in the financial sector. The facility will on-lend to selected local financial institutions – banks, leasing companies and NGOs – to write leases in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan and later, Tajikistan. Selection of participating financial institutions will be based on criteria such as: track record of financial soundness, clear corporate governance and transparency standards, and demonstrated commitment to leasing and to the SME sector. The facility will be supported by a donor-funded technical assistance program to address capacity and operational needs of local financial institutions.
