Project Description
Jointly, Carvajal S.A. and Carvajal Internacional S.A. (or the company), the Colombian and international holding companies of a leading privately-owned Colombian conglomerate founded in 1904, whose core business lines include:
- paper manufacturing and conversion;
- school and office supplies;
- phone directories (yellow pages);
- plastic packaging; and
- book and textbook editing and publishing (the Project Core Businesses).
The company’s expansion, rationalization and modernization plans in the 2003-2007 period, to help its Project Core Businesses to grow (organically and through acquisitions), to become leaders in their sectors, and to achieve international competitiveness. In particular, the project includes the following components:
- Paper Manufacturing/Conversion:
Modernizing and rationalizing its existing plants;
- School/Office Supplies:
Modernizing its facility in Brazil, and expanding its operations, mainly in Mexico and Brazil;
- Yellow Pages:
Rationalizing and growing its operations in Brazil;
- Book and Text Book Publishing/Editing:
Growing its operations in Mexico and Spain; and
- Plastic Packaging:
Modernizing its Colombian facilities, and expanding its operations there and in Mexico.
In addition, the project will also contemplate environmental and social and health and safety improvements at some of the company’s facilities in and outside Colombia.
