Project Description
Hikma Investment (the company, or Hikma) is a privately held multinational generic pharmaceuticals holding company headquartered in Amman, Jordan. Manufacturing operations started in 1978 in Jordan, and the company was established in 1991 to consolidate the ownership of all Hikma group’s manufacturing subsidiary companies throughout the Middle East, United States, Europe, and North Africa. Hikma has been an existing client of IFC since 1987.
The project involves expanding the company's operations in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA), Portugal, and Asia. This program is being planned in connection with preparing the company for a future U.S. initial public offering. It will include an IFC corporate governance component to help the company satisfy the recent corporate governance and securities law reform in the U.S. (the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002), which institutes new rules regarding the corporate governance of publicly held corporations listed in the U.S., including American Depositary Receipts (ADRs).
