Project Description
The project company, Tecon Suape S.A., is a special purpose Brazilian company, which was established to build, develop and operate the container terminal at Suape port under a 30-year lease from the Suape Port Authority. The project’s objective is to build, develop and operate berths 2 and 3 at the port. The project cost covers the first phase of investments, which includes acquisition and installation of container handling equipment, development of the container yard, construction of office buildings, and installation of computer systems.
The project is expected to have a positive developmental impact, as it will help reduce overall transport costs and increase competitiveness of exports from the north-east of Brazil by improving operational efficiency and lowering rates at Suape and neighboring ports. IFC''s role in the project is to provide the necessary financing to Tecon Suape at a time when international and local long term financing for infrastructure projects is scarce.
