Project Description

SVTI has been established exclusively to operate, maintain and expand the Port of San Vicente under a 15-year concession granted by Empresa Portuaria Talcahuano-San Vicente (EMPORT), the port authority of San Vicente and the neighboring port of Talcahuano. The purpose of the project is to transform the Port of San Vicente into the most efficient port in region VIII. The project is expected to benefit from its important geographical location due to the presence of major Chilean export industries such as forestry and fishing. The project will also serve to increase growing regional trade with other Latin American countries by providing importers and exporters with better access to foreign markets at reduced costs. IFC ''s investment will contribute to strengthening the port sector by providing a well-managed and efficient container and general cargo facility. In addition, IFC''s support of the project, with the targeted participation of local and foreign financial institutions as co-financiers is expected to encourage and support Chile''s privatization efforts in this important sector.
