Project Description
The project will finance:1) an expansion of the calcium cyanamide production from 50,000 tons per annum(tpa) to 150,000 tpa; and 2) the environmental upgrades of 3 existing calcium carbide furnaces, in oder to reduce air emissions and to recover waste heat to generate steam needed for the expansion.
IFC''s investment will help Darong increase economies of scale and further strengthen its position as a low-cost producer of specialized calcium cyanamide, and its derivative products, in both domestic and International markets. IFC''s investment will: promote local private sector development; improve living strandards in Northwest China; and will help alleviate proverty in this remote and less developed region. Through the increased production of the company, the project will provide employment opportunities at a time when local state-owned enterprises are laying off workers.
