The Project is expected to improve the quality and availability of electricity services for urban and rural residents in the Uludag region. The capex plan is expected to enhance infrastructure resilience to climate-induced risks through grid hardening against extreme heat and wildfires, flood protection of substations, and fire risk mitigation via automation and remote monitoring systems. The plan also foresees integration of distributed energy, advanced metering infrastructure, and digital asset management systems to improve network reliability and customer engagement. At the market level, the Project will contribute to power sector resilience by unlocking climate resilience capex, ensuring grid compatibility with growing intermittent renewable energy, and diversifying Turkiye's generation mix.

IFC's investment provides long-term equity capital that supports the Company's strategic growth and potential IPO readiness, in a market where patient institutional capital for infrastructure is limited. IFC's participation is expected to catalyze additional debt mobilization alongside other investors. As an equity investor, IFC will also support the Company's alignment with international corporate governance and environmental & social standards, strengthening its operational practices ahead of a potential public listing.

This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability given that the project is expected to have limited adverse E&S risks and/or impacts that are a few, site-specific, largely reversible, and readily addressed through avoidance and mitigation measures, as described in the following sections.

Key E&S aspects associated with the project are: (i) E&S resources and capacity, including the continued implementation of a corporate E&S management system (ESMS) and relevant procedures and plans to assess, avoid and manage the E&S risks and impacts in line with IFC PSs; (ii) labor and working conditions of company and contractors’ workers including Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), supply chain, assessment of gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH) risks; (iii) waste management; (iv) community health and safety including traffic and security management; (iv) land acquisition and livelihood impact; (v) biodiversity risks and impacts on Legally Protected and Internationally Recognized Areas, and associated priority biodiversity values; and (ix) cultural heritage risks.
