The Project has an expected AIMM rating of Good, with a score of 66. On an unadjusted basis (i.e., without the likelihood factor), the full potential AIMM score could reach 88.

Through the proposed investment, IFC is supporting Energuate's investment plan. IFC’s financial additionality will be provided in the forms of (i) innovative financing structure and (ii) mobilization, stemming from the B loan’s funding through a public bond issuance. This will be one of the largest bond issuances by real sector entities in Guatemala, where issuances have been less because of a lack of liquidity in the financial market. IFC’s nonfinancial additionality will be provided in the form of knowledge, innovation, and capacity building, as IFC will provide technical support to the company through its Future Grids Alliance initiative for exchanging knowledge and network resources to advance in areas such as cybersecurity, decarbonization, energy storage, and grid digitalization.

This is a Category B project given the size, scale and limited number of inherent E&S risks and impacts associated with low- and medium-voltage power distribution activities, which are site specific and temporary in nature and can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to recognized measures, design criteria and guidelines. Operating in a high-contextual risk environment, Energuate must adapt its management practices to ensure effective prevention and mitigation of potential impacts on the environment and communities.
