Project Description

The proposed Project is an investment package of up to US$52 million including (i) up to US$27 million (LCY equivalent) for IFC’s own account, and (ii) up to US$25 million (USD or LCY equivalent) mobilization for the Kenya and Uganda subsidiaries through B loan and parallel loans on a best effort basis. The package is structured as five senior loans with a tenor of 4-years (1-year grace period) to five subsidiaries of Platcorp Holdings Ltd (“Platcorp”). The package is broken down as follows: (i) US$20 million for two subsidiaries in Kenya, (ii) US$5million for two subsidiaries in Uganda and (iii) US$2 million for a subsidiary in Tanzania. The proceeds will provide liquidity to and support the microfinance institution’s lending strategy to expand access to finance for MSMEs with a 50% target for women-owned MSMEs (WMSMEs). Subject to BFC’s Approval, the Project will be included in the FIG MSME Finance Platform supported by a Pooled First Loss Guarantee (PFLG) of up to US$40 million provided by the International Development Association (IDA) 20 Private Sector Window Blended Finance Facility (IDA20-PSW BFF) allocated to the BOP Envelope under the FIG MSME Platform.
