This is a Category B project based on IFC’s 2012 Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability as the proposed Project is expected to have limited adverse E&S risks and/or impacts, generally site-specific, largely reversible, and readily addressed through mitigation measures, as described in the following sections.
Key E&S risks and issues associated with this project include: (i) the company’s E&S capacity and management systems (ESMS) to manage and monitor E&S impacts and risks of the project in compliance with legal requirements as well as IFC Performance Standards (PSs) and according to good international industry practice (GIIP) such as relevant general and industry specific examples presented in the World Bank Group (WBG) Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines; (ii) construction phase E&S risk management and effective monitoring, including contractors and their sub-contractors; (iii) assurance of fair, safe and healthy working conditions for the company’s direct and contracted workers during operation phases of the facilities including occupational, health and safety (OHS), working hours, and freedom of association (FoA); (iv) management and monitoring the performance of third party employers and relevant contractual agreements and availability of third party employers’ management systems which are appropriate to operate in a manner consistent with PS2; (v) GBVH, and child protection and safety (CPS); (vi) historical contamination due to the land’s previous use; (vii) resource efficiency and management of wastes and effluents; (viii) Life and Fire Safety (L&FS) management and emergency preparedness and response; (ix) cultural heritage management, and (x) stakeholder engagement and external grievance mechanism.
