Project Description

The proposed investment is to contribute to a financing package of up to US$40 million (“IFC Loans”), including IFC A loan for up to US$10 million, Managed Co-Lending Portfolio Program (MCPP) of up to US$10 million and a loan from the IDA PSW Blended Finance Facility (“IDA PSW BFF”) which is subordinated in liquidation, of up to US$20 million to Badsha Textiles Limited (BTL) belonging to Badsha Group, the largest yarn manufacturer in Bangladesh and one of the top-tier, vertically integrated sweater and woven garment manufacturing and exporting groups in Bangladesh.

The IFC Loans will support setting up of a greenfield spinning mill with a production capacity of 70,373 MT per year to manufacture premium cotton, viscose, blended cotton, cotton denim, poly cotton yarns (the “Project”).                                                  

Associated Advisory Engagement

Badsha Group is an existing Advisory client through their participation in the PaCT and Better Work through Group entities Pioneer Denim Limited (PDL) and Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Ltd (PKBDL) respectively as below:

 

Collaboration through PaCT program: PDL has been an Advisory Services client since May 2022. The denim manufacturing company self-nominated to join the PaCT II (601585) with the intention to gradually decarbonize their production process and become more sustainable. The factory underwent an In-depth Cleaner Production Assessment. Till now they reduced 587,692 m3/year of water consumption, avoided 12,157 tons/year of CO2 emissions, and reduced 1,126 tons/year of chemical use by implementing 3 measures specially in the process area.

 

Collaboration through Better Work program: PKBDL has been working with Better Work Program since 2016 and started its 5th cycle from January 24, 2022.
