This is a Category A project as per IFC's Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy due to its potential significant adverse environmental or social risks and/or impacts that are diverse, irreversible, or unprecedented. 

Key environmental and social (E&S) aspects and potential risks associated with the Project are: (i) adequacy of E&S assessments in line with IFC Performance Standards including an assessment of the cumulative impacts; (ii) corporate and Project-specific Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS); (iii) Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) management capacity and adequacy of systems during construction and operation phases; (iv) assurance of fair & safe labor working conditions, ensuring Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) of workforce including contract workers; (v) contractor management; (vi) planned and unplanned labor influx; (vii) management of supply chain risks; (viii) impact of brine discharge on the marine ecosystem; (ix) community health and safety impacts, including vehicular traffic, gender based violence and harassment (GBVH) and child protection and safeguarding (CPS); (x) physical and economic displacement as a result of any direct or indirect Project activities; (xi) impacts on terrestrial and marine Natural and Critical Habitat, Legally Protected and Internationally Recognized Areas and associated priority biodiversity values; (xii) cultural heritage impacts; and (xiii) stakeholder engagement and community grievance mechanism.
