Approximately 28.4% of the Company’s shares are floating (out of which ~2.6% is owned by Softbank), whereas the remaining is held by Bertelsmann SE& Co (49.2%), the founding family Esteves (18.0%), and Management/Treasury shares (4.5%).

Total Project Cost stands at BRL1,000 billion and IFC’s investment consists of an up to BRL500 million A Loan on IFC’s own account.                                               

The Project is located in Brazil. Afya is headquartered in Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais (Brazil) and has presence in 13 Brazilian states with 47 campuses for undergraduate and continuing education. 60% of the campuses are in the North and Northeast region of the Country.                                                 

This is a category B project according to IFC’s Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability. Key E&S issues and risks associated with the project are expected to include: (i) company’s capacity to implement an environment, health, safety, and social management system (ESMS), in line with IFC PS requirements, (ii) labor conditions and workers’ grievance management, (iii) occupational health and safety (OHS) management, including contractors’ management, (iv) gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH), (v) resource efficiency, waste management, including biomedical and hazardous waste, (vi) community health and safety, including security management, and (vii) external grievance management.
