This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy. Based on IFC’s review, coupled with existing knowledge of the sector, the project is expected to have limited adverse environmental and social risks and impacts that are few in number, short-term and site-specific, and can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to recognized performance standards, good international industry practice (GIIP) procedures, guidelines and design criteria as described in the following sections.

Key E&S risks and issues related to this project include, i) the company’s corporate, country and facility level ESMS to align the operations with the Performance Standards inclusive of ensuring adequate due diligence of new acquisitions; ii) E&S capacity at the corporate, country and facility level to support effective implementation of the management systems; iii) assurance of fair, safe, and healthy working conditions for employees and contract workers in line with IFC PS2 in all areas of operation; iv) management of hazardous goods and sensitive materials in storage / transit and in compliance with legal requirements and good international industry practice; v) management of emissions, wastewater and solid/hazardous waste in line with WBG EHS Guidelines; vi) life and fire safety, emergency preparedness and response; vii) community safety and grievance management; and (viii) supply chain management.
