The most significant expected Project-level Outcomes are derived from improved productivity of permanent crops in SeeTree's markets of operations such as Brazil, USA, Argentina, Indonesia etc achieved by deploying at scale AI technologies that measure the health of individual trees, thereby significantly increasing the percentage of healthy trees. Maintaining healthy trees is critical for productivity growth in the permanent crop sector. New technologies like AI can help improve productivity through automated analysis of large-scale permanent crop farms to measure the health of each tree individually, allow growers to understand the productivity of their trees and other parameters like expected fruit size and correlated these factors to farming practice. Potential productivity improvement can result in higher income as the outcomes of the data analytics allows growers to prepare the right marketing strategy based on size and volume of products. From this investment, the main sources of expected Market Creation outcomes are derived from the potential to maintain the competitiveness of the permanent crop sector, which is generally developed, by stimulating further adoption of precision agriculture technologies via demonstration and replication channels. The Company's technology also has the potential to trigger market changes such as the development of the spoke-and-hub farming model if implemented in lower-middle or low-income countries. It may also increase the traceability of fruits, particularly to deal with issues of rejections when crossing borders.

IFC's Additionally in this project is both financial and non-financial. Financial Additionality consists of the provision of patient capital. Non-financial Additionality comes in the form of knowledge, innovation and capacity building, through the introduction of agribusiness companies to the Company for partnership. Financial Additionality: - Own Account Equity: IFC will invest US$8 million in SeeTree's equity fundraise. Despite a relatively high availability of venture capital in the countries where SeeTree currently operates and intends to expand into, there is limited availability of patient capital available to companies working on precision agricultural technologies. A patient investor such as the IFC will enable the Company to take a long-term approach to scale up and reach a larger number of growers. - Assisting with key industry relationships: The Company will benefit from access to IFC's deep relationships in the VC market when it pursues future funding rounds. Non-Financial Additionality - Knowledge, innovation and capacity building: As the Company expands into a variety of permanent crops, IFC can help the Company leverage IFC relationships and investments in the agribusiness sector across all emerging markets and can share knowledge and lessons learned. - Best practices: IFC will support the Company in implementing best practices in corporate governance and environmental and social management.

The proposed investment is a Category B project in accordance with IFC’s 2012 Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability. Category B projects are defined as those which have business activities with limited number of environmental and social impacts. These can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to performance standards, as described in the following sections. Key E&S issues reviewed during IFC’s virtual appraisal include: (i) verification of an E&S management system and implementation progress status; (ii) management of environmental, labor and occupational health and safety practices; (iii) fair and safe working conditions for employees and contractors, including implementation of workers’ grievance mechanism; and (iv) implementation of a Code of Ethics that reinforces customers’ compliance with applicable national E&S legal requirements .
