The Project’s sponsor and borrower of the proposed IFC financing is the Region of Fes Meknes.                                                   

IFC’s financing consists of up to USD 35 million or equivalent in Euros for IFC’s own account.                                                   

 The Project is located in the Region of Fes Meknes, Morocco.                                                   

 This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability, as the upgrade of the rural roads under PRDTS is expected to result in a limited number of specific environmental and social risks and impacts that can be minimized, avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines, or design criteria.  There are minimal or no adverse environmental or social risks and/or impacts associated with the procurement of products and equipment for disinfection and sterilization as part of the emergency preparedness and response for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key environmental and social (E&S) issues associated with the project include i) the capacity and systems of the Region to screen, assess, avoid or minimize and manage E&S risks and potential impacts associated with the upgrading of the selected roads, ii) minimization and management of limited land acquisition, livelihood and land use impacts due to widening of the rural roads, iii) community health and safety, iv) labor and working conditions and occupational health and safety (OHS) for construction workers, v) minimization and management of biodiversity risks and vi) stakeholder engagement and grievance management.
