Barry Callebaut is publicly traded in the SIX Swiss Exchange, with institutional investors holding a majority of its shares and the balance held by Jacobs Holding. 

  The proposed project (“the Project”) is expected to be US$30 million for the supply of sugar, soy lecithin and dairy from Barry Callebaut’s suppliers.

  Several countries in Latin America and Asia including Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Thailand. 

This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability because a limited number of specific environmental and social impacts may result that can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines or design criteria. The E&S impacts that are expected to occur among Barry Callebaut’s third-party sugar, soy and dairy Suppliers are those related primarily to agricultural production. The most significant of these impacts are related to labor practices, including incidence of harmful child labor, forced labor, significant occupational health and safety risks, wages, and overall safe working and fair employment conditions as well as impacts on communities in the production areas. In addition, environmental risks include water and energy consumption; handling and use of chemicals (pesticides and fertilizers); and impacts on biodiversity due to deforestation of High Conservation Values (HCV) Areas.
