The Company is an existing joint venture between Savannah Commodities Company Limited (56% shareholding) and K+S AG (44%).                                                  

The proposed investment is an A Loan of up to US$11 million to Grainpulse.                                                   

The proposed investment will finance the Company’s working capital and capital expenditure for the expansion of (i) fertilizer blending and warehouse facilities in Mukono; (ii) grain, flour and animal feed milling facilities in Mukono; (iii) rural grain collection centers; and (iv) coffee facilities in Kampala, Uganda.            

   There are no major adverse environmental or social impacts expected to result from the project and it is possible to avoid or mitigate any limited adverse impacts that may result by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines or design criteria. Hence, the project has been classified as Category B according to IFC’s Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability.

The key environmental, social, health and safety risks associated with this project include: (i) development and implementation of the Company’s E&S management system - specifically organizational and technical capacity to effectively screen for and manage E&S risks in their operations; (ii) HR policies and procedures, working conditions, and occupational health and safety management procedures; (iii) resource (water and energy) consumption and management; (iv) dust management; and, (v) the Company’s supply chain risk management system for sourcing coffee and grains from suppliers.
