MWML, which was incorporated in 2017, is headquartered in Yangon with its central warehouse currently under construction at the Thilawa Special Economic Zone near Yangon. It plans to also have satellite warehouses and cross docking platforms in other cities.

Stakeholder impact:

• The Company will source around 50% of its products locally, largely from SMEs. thereby creating a large and reliable source of demand for those suppliers, broadening their market, and give other smaller suppliers a chance to develop and become competitive. These suppliers will also work with small and marginal farmers across the country to help promote modern practices like contract farming, smart input use and post-harvest management thereby increasing their productivity and enabling them to sell their produce at remunerative prices.
• The Company will improve the local distribution and logistics infrastructure; and introduce higher standards and efficient delivery practices for its clients. This is expected to result in lower prices of quality products for end consumers.
• The Project is expected to create more than 200 jobs during operations as well as many indirect jobs in the services sector.
• MWML will contribute to sector formalization and increased tax revenues for the government through transparent tax collection practices. Market impact: By investing in training, and implementation of international standards for local suppliers and service providers, the Company will contribute to better integrating them in domestic and possibly regional markets. This can help positively impact the local agriculture sector.

Key E&S risks and issues associated with this project include: the company’s plans to develop systems and procedures to customize the corporate E&S management systems of the sponsor and replicate in Myanmar; design plans for the warehouse development including the plans for energy and water conservation; management of emissions and waste; labor and working conditions; management of contractors (during construction and operational phases); transportation safety management for the delivery operation; and managing E&S risks in the supply chain that will be developed in Myanmar as part of this project.
