The Project will be developed by Daehan Wind Power Company PSC (the “Company”), a special purpose vehicle incorporated in Jordan, and currently owned by Korea Southern Power Company (“KOSPO”) (50% + 1 share) and Daelim Energy Co. (50% - 1 share).
KOSPO is a power company with over 10GW of installed power capacity in the Republic of Korea and globally. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Korea Electric Power Company (“KEPCO”), Korea's largest electricity utility company with activities in transmission, distribution and generation of electricity inside and outside Korea and US$ 153.2 billion and US$ 51.9 billion in consolidated 2016 assets and sales, respectively. Daelim Energy is a subsidiary of Daelim Group, one of Korea's leading diversified global conglomerates with US$ 10.3 billion and US$ 8.2 billion in consolidated 2016 assets and sales, respectively. Daelim Energy is a power and energy
infrastructure developer with over 4GW of power projects in Australia, Korea, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The total Project cost is estimated at ~US$ 113 million, of which IFC's investment is expected to consist of a combination
of an A loan of up to US$ 26.7 million and a B loan of up to US$ 26.7 million. Islamic Development Bank is expected to
provide an additional US$ 26.7 million.

The Project is located in the Tafila region of Jordan, south of the capital Amman, in an area that is largely uncultivated
and uninhabited. Land will be leased from private owners on a voluntary basis and no government land is being acquired.
Approximately 85% of land lease arrangements have been finalized.

This is a Category A project per IFC’s Policy on Environmental and Social Sustainability. Social risks and impacts are expected to be low as there are no residences within or immediately adjacent to the site and agricultural use is limited by the rocky, hilly terrain. Biodiversity-related risks are significant: as described in the project description, this project forms part of a cluster of existing and planned wind power projects located east of Dana Biosphere Reserve, a nationally legally protected and a UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Reserve (MAB). The Dana Biosphere Reserve is located within a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) as recognized by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) as recognized by BirdLife International due to the diverse assemblage of breeding birds of unusually mixed bio-geographical conditions present in the area.

Both the Reserve and IBA/KBA are located to the west of the project site, in the Rift Valley/Red Sea flyway for migratory birds, the second most frequented flyway worldwide. The IBA is also known to support resident or summer breeding raptors and other threatened bird species in Jordan. The IBA is the only place in Jordan where Griffon Vulture breeding sites are found and is a key breeding area for Syrian Serin, a restricted-range species. As such, the key E&S issue for this project concerns the avoidance, monitoring and management of potential adverse impacts (including cumulative impacts) on birds, and in particular on those priority bird species at the highest risk from wind farm related impacts, as established in the Tafila Region Wind Power Cumulative Effects Assessment.
