IFC and Mirasco are jointly conducting a feasibility study to prepare Phase I of the development of a hub-and-spoke network of modern infrastructure providing end-to-end third-party temperature-controlled logistics (TCL) services in Egypt (the Project).
The Project, which results from a TCL market assessment conducted by IFC in Egypt in 2021, is being developed in collaboration with Mirasco (the Sponsor), a food-products trading company and a key meat importer into Egypt. Mirasco has been operating in Egypt since 1983 and is committed to addressing key TCL infrastructure and services constraints in the market and extending 3P TCL services to underserved areas in Egypt
IFC funding will, amongst others, be used for an Environmental and Social (E&S) study including an E&S scoping study to develop the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Terms of Reference TOR for the greenfield hub facility and its operation and E&S site selection criteria to be included for the selection of the spokes facilities locations. Key E&S issues to be considered at minimum in the ESIA TOR would include but not be limited to occupational health/safety for the employees and contractors, energy efficiency for temperature controlled storage facilities and transportation, minimization of leakage of refrigerant, fire prevention and emergency response and road transportation and community safety.
