Project Name BRAZIL: Innovative Health Services

1. Innovative Health Services (IHS) will be a holding company which will invest in existing or start-up health care service companies in Brazil. The companies IHS will invest in will provide services intended to improve the cost efficiency and service quality of the health care industry. Those companies will be involved in activities such as home care, occupational and preventive medicine, industry wide information systems and networking, prescription benefit management, hospital management, and network of excellence.
2. This is a category B project according to IFC’s environmental review procedure because specific impacts may result which can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines or design criteria. For subprojects financed under the facility, the company will implement an environmental risk management system consistent with host country requirements and World Bank policies and guidelines. In addition, IFC will assess the Company’s capability to implement the system.
3. IHS has committed to:
· establish an environmental management system;
· designate individuals who will have responsibility for environmental reviews;
· attend environmental training programs;
· ensure that all category A projects are cleared by IFC’s Environment and Social Review Unit; and
· submit annual environmental monitoring reports.
4. The company in conjunction with Banco Icatu will form a group “Icatu Asesoria”, to provide environmental training to IHS. Banco Icatu participated in IFC’s environmental training program during 1997.
5. IFC will monitor ongoing compliance with World Bank environmental, health and safety policies and guidelines during the lifetime of the project by evaluating reports submitted annually to IFC by Innovative Health Services and by conducting periodic supervision.
6. Based on its review of available information regarding potential environmental impacts and proposed mitigation measures, IFC concludes that Innovative Health Services proposed project will meet World Bank environmental, health and safety policies and guidelines and host country requirements.
