Project Description

Agricola Alvorada (“Alvorada” or the “Company”) is a Brazilian agribusiness company with an integrated business model that includes the commercialization of agricultural inputs, grain origination and trading (primarily soybeans and corn), grain storage and logistics, and the industrial production of corn-based ethanol. The Company operates a decentralized network of 29 operating facilities, 6 administrative offices and 1 corporate headquarter across Brazil, with a strong presence in the state of Mato Grosso and additional operations in Parana, Sao Paulo, Goias, and Para. Its infrastructure includes 19 grain storage facilities with a combined static storage capacity of approximately 2.0 million tons, supported by logistics infrastructure for the receipt, storage, and dispatch of agricultural commodities.
The proposed investment consists of an up to US$100 million senior secured A/B loan package, comprising an IFC A Loan of up to US$40 million for IFC’s own account and a B Loan of up to US$60 million to be mobilized from commercial lenders. IFC’s financing will support Alvorada’s operations in Brazil through a capital expenditure program and associated working capital needs aimed at: (i) expanding the Company’s grain storage capacity to support increased corn supply to its ethanol operations; (ii) maintaining and upgrading existing grain trading, storage, and logistics infrastructure; and (iii) financing working capital associated with grain origination and commercialization activities (the “Project”).

Overview of IFC's Scope of Review

IFC’s Environmental and Social (“E&S”) review of the Project included a site visit conducted in April 2026, which covered selected Alvorada sites in the state of Mato Grosso. The review also comprised: (i) meetings with Alvorada’s management team, including representatives from Sustainability, Occupational Health and Safety (“OHS”), Human Resources (“HR”), and Compliance; (ii) review of key E&S documents, including corporate policies, procedures, and management systems related to environmental, social, and OHS matters; (iii) evaluation of environmental management practices, including wastewater, air emissions, waste management, and resource use; (iv) assessment of labor and working conditions, including OHS practices; (v) review of Alvorada’s Code of Ethics, Worker Grievance Mechanism, and policies for monitoring and preventing sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (“SEAH”); and (vi) analysis of the Company’s supply chain management systems, including traceability and socio-environmental screening of suppliers.
