Yellow Door Energy ("YDE" or the "Company") is involved in the provision of rooftop and ground-mounted distributed solar power and energy efficiency solutions to commercial and industrial ("C&I") consumers in Jordan and UAE. The Company has established a leading market presence in UAE and Jordan, where it has successfully developed, rooftop solar, ground-mounted solar and energy efficiency (ESCO) projects for C&I customers. The Company has a portfolio of projects under development with major clients in UAE and Jordan, and is actively exploring opportunities to invest in similar projects in growth markets in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia regions. The Company is seeking equity funding from IFC and a group of other investors to implement these projects and execute its pipeline.
IFC is considering an equity investment in Yellow Door Energy along with the IFC Middle East and North Africa Fund of up to US$25.0 – US$30.0 million.
IFC reviewed Yellow Door Energy (YDE) (“the Company”) Environmental, Health, Safety and Social (EHSS) capabilities and its ability to design, install, operate and maintain solar energy systems in accordance with Jordanian regulatory requirements and IFC’s Performance Standards. Specific environmental and social (E&S) items reviewed included:
i) Review of project background information provided by the company’s management;
ii) Discussions with the company’s management in Amman-Jordan (August 2018);
iii) Visit to an example of the company’s operations, a recently developed ground-mounted greenfield solar photovoltaic (PV) installation undergoing testing and about to be commissioned in Wadi Al Ash (WAA), Amman, Jordan.;
iv) Review of Yellow Door Human Resources documentations, EH&S plan and contractor’s safety program;
v) Review of Yellow Door Safety Manual developed for the WAA project;
vi) Review of EHS policy and plans applied to Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), O&M contracts, Corporate documents and Employee Handbook
