Project Description

The project involves a proposed $20-25 million equity investment by IFC to finance expansion activity and potential acquisitions by the Facey Group (“Facey” or the “Company”), which distributes mobile handsets and mobile airtime in the Americas, provides IT products and solutions in the Caribbean and Central American regions, distributes branded food and pharmaceutical products, and owns and operates in Jamaica 6 retail pharmacies, inclusive of a pharmacy located at a private hospital, and a wellness center. Any acquisitions would operate in the same lines of business.

Facey distributes products for Xerox and other leading information technology and business equipment manufacturers and provides document and IT solutions. Facey represents other large multinationals including Cisco, Oracle, Datacard, NCR, Pitney Bowes, Panasonic, Hewlett Packard and Sun. Facey provides associated services such as maintenance and leasing services to its clients. The Company installs and services IT products related to printing, imaging, identification, security and transaction processing (including computer hardware and software), and also sells parts and supplies for printing machines. The Company also prints and distributes identification cards, banking cards, and phone cards.

The Company operates 30 buildings that contain combinations of office spaces, copy centers, and warehouse spaces, ranging from 500 to 123,000 square feet. Facey owns about 135,000 square feet of those spaces, and leases about 229,000 square feet of those spaces.

Overview of IFC's Scope of Review

The review of this project consisted of a visit by IFC staff to the project site in September 2013 to meet with and interview management of Facey and to have a first-hand look at operational activities. IFC staff also appraised Facey Group human resources policies and procedures, regulatory permits, pharmaceutical guidelines and agreements, health and safety procedures for Facey’s Productive Business Solutions (“PBS”) unit, and the disaster recovery plan developed by the Musson Group, Facey’s parent company.
