Project Description

Tajero Group of companies (“Tajero” or the “Group”), established in 2002 in the city of Dushanbe, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan, is the leading nation-wide importer and distributor of food (confectionary, frozen poultry and raw meat products, oils, milk products, pasta, etc.) and beverages (juices and tea) with exclusive contracts from leading foreign Fast Moving Consumer Goods companies. The Group also manufactures sausages and chocolate. Tajero’s distribution network covers Dushanbe, Region of Republican Subordination and Khatlon region through its central office in the city of Dushanbe. Sogd region of the northern Tajikistan is served through a subsidiary in the town of Khojand. The Group owns and leases warehouse facilities of 7360 sq. m in total including warehouses of 1850 sq. m. for deep-frozen products and refrigerated warehouses of 1160 sq. m. Total vehicle fleet consisted of 46 small size lorries including12 vehicles in Khojand to serve in the city and suburb. Tajero has approached IFC for a 3-year working capital line to refinance a current loan and reduce financing costs. This would be IFC’s second investment with Tajero. In 2010, IFC initially invested in a new production of chocolates (Project ID 29630). Overview of IFC's Scope of Review

IFC’s environmental and social (E&S) review of the project consisted of a site visit to the Group’s facilities including dry and refrigerated warehouses, chocolate production facilities, a vehicle park and repair workshop areas; a building recently acquired for accommodation of new office premises after overhaul; discussions with Tajero managers and specialists on operational, human resources, occupational health and fire safety, environmental, security and product quality matters; and a meeting with a local consultant commissioned for development of the HACCP/ISO 22000 based management system. The appraisal also included review of environmental, health, safety (EHS) and social documentation available in the Annual Monitoring Report and the Report on the E&S Action Plan Status of the current project between IFC and Tajero.
